The Gernsback Continuum, Cont.
I like the idea of the protagonist living in the present (well, the 80’s, but the present when it was written) and I like how he finds himself imagining the world instead of just living in it or transporting to it.
Its very much akin to the rest of Gibson’s writing style in that it looks at its subject matter with a healthy dose of fear and skepticism. I know that a lot of people were hoping for a uniform race in the future, but I don’t think that was the general consensus nor was it what was predicted, just something that might have been hoped for.
The Gernsback Continuum is definitely Atom Punk, if not proto in its nature, and is worth the read.
